A weekend at Myrtles Plantation

The mention of the word "Myrtles" used to send chills down my spine based on the countless articles, books and documentaries I've read regarding how "Haunted" it is. I've always wanted to visit and investigate the plantation and we finally had an opportunity to do so.

The property itself is absolutely breath taking. It really is the epitome of southern romance & charm.

They absolutely market the place as a "spooksville" though. They have a mystery tour only given on weekends and at night where a tour guide goes from room to room delivering ghost stories. Whatever you do, don't ask about the history of the house, you'll have to wait until the next day to take that tour. The ghost stories are suppose to scare the kids and the guest into buying the Voodoo necklace to ward off evil spirits (the same one hanging around the tour guide's neck) located conveniently in the gift shop, which is the original house built in 1794. There was a ghost story to be told for every room in the house, so that all guest staying the night, would likely experience "something." We stayed in the Winters room and both slept fine there. Neither of us had any personal experiences in that room.

The ghost stories didn't scare me, I knew it was all hype.

I DID have a personal experience though. I was touched and it was a strange sensation. Non threatening though. I was standing up, in a group, with lights on and felt the jeans around my knee start depressing as if something was leaning on or touching my knee. I looked down and saw my jeans actually moving, by itself. It continued to depress below my knee too. It lasted all of about 30 seconds, but wow - what a feeling.

Another strange thing happened when we were leaving, I was out snapping pictures. I was taking the picture of the statue in the photo above and my camera started flipping out. I have a sony cybershot and in order to change the settings you have to manually turn the wheel on top of the camera. When you are turning the wheel, you can also a see a digital display of the wheel turning. I was holding the cameral, and the display kept toggling through all the settings on its own. That has never happened before nor since. I'm thinking energy field or just camera malfunction. Either is equally plausible, I think.
